Shashank Manohar: India may host Pakistan in December at home
BCCI president Shashank Manohar showed that India are all
set to host Pakistan for a limited over
series in North India. Indian home minister Rajnath Singh has also given a
positive response. Manohar informed the Annual General Meeting that BCCI had
signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Pakistan Cricket Board
(PCB) to play a two-Test and a five match one-day series in the UAE in December
2015.
“We are committed to playing Pakistan in December. However,
since it’s not possible to play them in Pakistan or the UAE, we have to look at
playing the series in Northern India in December,” said Manohar.
However, in current time former players have urged PCB not
to pursue the series because BCCI ignored PCB’s extensive prayer about the
series in the UAE in December. But, again elected BCCI president Shashank
Manohar doesn’t want to breach the trust as he wants to abide the MoU.
Manohar after his election said the arrival of the series
depends on not only the decision of the boards but also the political relation
between India and Pakistan.
“To play against
Pakistan we need to get government permission. So we need to speak to the
government and take whatever decision
the government takes,” he said.
He was asked whether BCCI would be inviting a team to play a
home series in December, Manohar at the post-AGM press conference said, “It all depends on what happens to the
proposed India-Pakistan series.
“We have to get an appointment with the government first and
then we will take a call.”
India and Pakistan broke all bilateral cricket ties since
the December 2007 series. A one-day international T20 series in December 2012.
